Happy 50th Birthday Grandpa!

Happy 50th Birthday
Tonight we celebrated Grandpa's birthday AGAIN! If you have never been to Farrell's Ice Cream Parlor and Restaurant.....you haven't lived. Apparently this place was opened back in the 60's, it was family owned and operated for several years until it was sold off to a large company. As with any large corporation taking over a small family business, it lost its sparkle and they soon went from 130 restaurants to only 1 left in the early 90's. The last restaurant in San Diego was family owned, and they dedicated themselves to revive the restaurant. A new Farrell's opened in Brea, CA and needless to say without reservations you have to wait outside, down the street, and around the corner just to get a table. Apparently when my parents were kids, this was the place to have a birthday party because of their outrageous ice cream creations. My dad never had his birthday here despite his desperate desire to....but tonight he finally got his birthday celebration at 50 years old!! To celebrate, we ordered the largest and wildest creation.....THE ZOO! You can imagine by the name, what this might include. The zoo is a large trough, too big for one waiter to carry alone, filled with about 30 ice cream scoops of all kinds of flavors, drizzled with hot fudge, strawberry, bannanas, pineapples, whipped cream, nuts and lots of cherries! It weighs in at 6 pounds! Atop all this, is a handful of animals that might be found at the zoo: monkey, frog, zebra, flamingo, etc. Enough of the explanation...just see for yourself!
